Rev. Dr. Alvin D. Thompson, Sr.
"I believe the role of the preacher is two-fold: to comfort the disturbed and to disturb the comfortable." That's the message that Dr. Alvin D. Thompson, Sr. often carries as he ministers to both young and old alike.
Dr. Thompson is a native of Thomasville, NC. He began his preaching ministry at Elevation Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC in 1990. There he was instrumental in service as a counselor, as a teacher in the Christian Education department, and as a diligent worker on the ministerial staff. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University where he received his BA as well as a Master of Social Work degree. Additionally, he received both a Doctoral degree and a Master's degree in Pastoral Counseling from Andersonville Theological Seminary.
Dr. Thompson was called to pastor New Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Clayton, NC in 1994. He takes great pride in having celebrated his 25th anniversary union of pastor and people. He has a genuine love for his people as evidenced by his humble servant spirit and has a passion for ministry beyond the walls of the local church. Under God's guidance New Trinity offered one of the largest food pantries in central North Carolina for 14 years till 2012. Being led by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the church also renovated an old warehouse that has previously housed an afterschool program, mentoring program, and summer camp to name a few. Dr. Thompson served as the first chaplain of the Clayton Police Department and has become an advocate for partnerships between churches and community organizations.
Dr. Thompson is a Board Certified Christian Counselor and licensed clinical social worker. He also has extensive experience in providing substance abuse counseling and treatment as a licensed clinical addiction specialist. Indeed he serves others whether professional or spiritual. Many of his teachings strive to preserve the family as a vital and effective vessel of God as he believes his first ministry is his home. He is a dedicated husband to the former Sharon Robinson who works in various capacities with his ministry and they are the SUPER proud parents of a daughter, Jazmine and two sons, Alvin Jr. and Aiden.
